Just the Essentials

img_8606I talk about Essential Oils a lot on social media and in person, and it’s probably the thing I get the most questions about from my followers. I use DoTerra oils, because I value their commitment to the highest grade therapeutic oils, sourced ethically from places where these plants, flowers and fruits grow naturally.

I’ve been using essential oils in my day-to-day life for almost three years, and have effectively transformed nearly every area of my daily routine and self-care practice to be all natural. When I first started using them, making my own blends, putting them on my feet, my husband thought I was nuts. I’d go up to my studio, and he’d say, “Have fun, you witchy woman!” Now, even he has come around and learned to love and embrace the world of natural wellness. Today, I’m going to share with you just five of my favorite DoTerra products (not just oils, but products that have been made with oils by DoTerra), and the first five DoTerra oils I recommend to start your collection.

Five of my favorite DoTerra Products:

1. Shampoo & Conditioner

Technically this is two products, I know, but really would you get one without the other? My hair, which is color treated, loves this shampoo and conditioner combo! I’ve been using this for just over a year, and my hair is stronger and healthier than ever. My husband has finally given up his classic Rosemary Mint Suave in favor of this invigorating Wild Orange and Lime duo. You can try the set in the smaller size (8.46 fl oz/each) for just under $40!

2. Body Wash

We have been using this body wash for over two years. It smells amazing (Grapefruit, Bergamot & Cedarwood), and leaves your skin silky smooth and squeaky clean. It’s also reasonably priced at $17/bottle. For reference, my husband and I both use it daily and we go through about a bottle/month.

3. Essential Skin Care Line

The skincare line can be pricey, but what skincare line worth having isn’t? The three pieces I recommend most highly are the Facial Cleanser, Invigorating Scrub and Hydrating Cream. I have some of the other pieces too, and love them, but these three are my everyday go-tos! If you’re interested in this line, I recommend we talk and decide which pieces are best for you before we talk pricing.

4. OnGuard Cough Drops

These have saved my life. OnGuard oil is an incredible tool for staying healthy, fighting sickness, and building your immune system. When I start to feel that tickle in the back of my throat that can only mean a cold is coming, I turn straight to these. They’re cinnamony and spicy, and a little intense when you first try them, but they’ll keep that cold away better than any other lozenge out there. A bag of 30 drops will run you less than $20, and we’re entering cold and flu season if you didn’t know!

5. Peppermint Beadlets

These tiny little beadlets are the best breath mints! Put one on your tongue, pop the outer shell, swallow and breathe deeply in and out of your mouth to feel the fresh blast of peppermint. They’re discrete before a meeting or after a very garlicky lunch, and unlike other mints, they aren’t packed with sugar! A tube of these is just over $15!

Five DoTerra Oils to start your collection:

1. Lavender

What to use it for: Lavender is the first oil I recommend to everyone. It has the most uses, and when it doubt, I tell people to use Lavender. So, I’ll just name a few of its uses: Acne, Allergies, Anxiety, Burns, Cramps, Dandruff, Diaper Rash, Exhaustion, Hair Loss, Hives, Itching, Nausea, Premenstrual conditions, Scarring, Stretch marks, and so many more.

How to use it: Dilute with coconut oil and apply topically for skin conditions, cramps, and physical ailments. Diffuse in the air to take advantage of the calming effects, and to control your surroundings. I love to diffuse oils in my office, so when others enter, I’ve already set the tone.

Cost: Alone, Lavender costs $28.00 for a 15 mL bottle*

2. Lemon

What to use it for: Another very diverse oil, Lemon can be used to flavor your water, applied topically, and so much more. Here are few ways it’s used: Anxiety, Cold Sores, Concentration, Digestion, Disinfectant (yes you can clean with it!), Fever, Flu, Furniture Polish, Greasy Hair, Heartburn, Postpartum Depression, Relaxation, and lots more.

How to use it: Put one drop in your glass of water (or your glass/metal water bottle!). Combine with vinegar and OnGuard and make yourself a spray cleaner for the kitchen. Diffuse in the air for its uplifting properties, or add a drop to your avocado before you mush it onto your toast.

Cost: Alone, Lemon costs $13.33 for a 15 mL bottle*

3. Peppermint

What to use it for: Alertness, Asthma, Bacterial Infections, Congestion, Constipation, Cooling your body, Cramps, Endurance, Itching, Memory, Muscle Fatigue, Nausea, Swollen Eyes, Vomiting, and (again) many more.

How to use it: You can apply it directly for the physical 123ailments, much like Lavender, or you can diffuse it to spread it through the air if you’d prefer to soak it in that way.

Cost: Alone, Peppermint costs $27.33 for a 15 mL bottle*

*You can get all three of these oils (Lavender, Lemon & Peppermint) in a full-size set for $66.67, OR get the 5 mL bottles all together for $26.67 so you can try them!

4. OnGuard

What to use it for: This blend is known for its antibacterial properties and immune system benefits. It can be used as an antibacterial and anti fungal, to treat Bladder Infections, Chronic Fatigue, Colds, Coughs, Flu, Warts, and a Sore Throat. I also use it as a Household Cleaner!

What’s inside: Orange, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus and Rosemary.

How to use it: I put OnGuard on my feet every day to help my Immune System get stronger. I used to be the sick kid, out of school for weeks at a time with a cold that got out of hand because of my Asthma. I also diffuse OnGuard when I’m sick, or others around me are, and I put it in spray bottles with vinegar & water to clean surfaces around my house naturally!

Cost: OnGuard costs $42.67 for a 15 mL bottle

5. Balance

What to use it for: Anxiety, Back Pain, Balance, Confusion, Depression, Energy, Fear, Grief, Hot Flashes, Metabolism, Mood Swings, Seizures. I keep this on hand for anxiety during my workday!

What’s Inside: Spruce, Ho Wood, Blue Tansy, Frankincense, German Chamomile and Osmanthus.

How to use it: Apply directly to the bottom of your feet (where your largest pores are) or to the base of your spine. You can also apply to any of your pressure points for quicker entry to your blood flow! It also smells earthy and amazing, so diffuse this anytime you need to ground your space.

Cost: Balance costs $26.67 for a 15 mL bottle

As always, I’d love to chat with you about ways to personalize this list to your specific needs! Essential oils have the power to support you through many physical, emotional, and mental ailments such as anxiety, depression, itching and irritation, immune system building, ADD/ADHD, and so much more.
