Happy October – Fall in the South is a weird time, at least for me. In New England, we’d have the occasional October day that was warm – where your new sweater from the Gap should have stayed in your closet, but instead sticks to you all day long.
In the South, Fall is really just one long drum role of hot weather, rain, and cool breezes that lead us to Winter. I miss having a real Fall actually, and now I know how spoiled I was growing up in Maine on the coast. I’d watch pine trees grow thick all summer, and remain strong through the autumn while their neighboring willows, oaks, and elms shed leaves around the rocky coast, and sat bare all winter long. Oh, it was a sight.
